Clerkships Seminar

Students explored what clerkships involve, when they matter, and how to start building experience from first year, while gaining exposure to the diverse world of commercial law—from advising clients to working on disputes and high-value corporate transactions.

The session highlighted clerkships as a key pathway into competitive graduate roles and equipped students with the knowledge to confidently begin shaping their legal careers.

Careers Conversation Night

This flagship event provided law students with a valuable opportunity to connect directly with a diverse range of organisations. Attendees engaged with law firms, Practical Legal Training providers, and community legal services, gaining meaningful insight into career pathways, clerkships, and opportunities for work or volunteering during their studies.

Whether at the beginning of their degree or preparing to enter the profession, the event was designed to support students in exploring their options and making informed decisions about their future in the legal field.

EY Pathways Seminar

07 May 2026

Students joined us at our EY Careers Seminar to hear from industry professionals, gain insight into career pathways, and discover opportunities at EY. The event provided a valuable chance to network, learn, and be inspired by professionals working in the field. Registration was required for attendance, and with limited spots available, the seminar was a highly worthwhile opportunity for students interested in exploring future careers. 

Mel Storey, Career Big Sis Event

Students joined Mel Storey, Career Big Sis, for Real Legal Career Pathways: Beyond the Clerkship. The event was designed for law students and early-career professionals seeking practical guidance on how to navigate legal career pathways, build meaningful experience, and develop the skills that matter beyond the traditional clerkship route. It was an insightful and encouraging session for anyone looking to forge their own path in law.

Mooting 101 Workshop

27 April and 02 May 2026

We recently hosted our first Mooting 101 Workshop across two days, on 27 April and 2 May 2026. Day one focused on foundational mooting skills through a seminar and Q&A, while day two provided practical experience through a tour of the Old Magistrates’ Court followed by practice moots. It was encouraging to see so many students participate and begin developing their confidence in oral advocacy.

Women in Law Panel Event

The annual Women in Law Panel was an inspiring event that brought together leading women from across the legal profession to share their experiences and insights.

Students gained valuable perspectives on legal practice, career pathways, and the experiences of women in law, with an engaging Q&A session fostering meaningful discussion and reflection.

Legal Writing Workshop

01 April 2026

The Legal Writing Workshop was a fantastic success. The session was warmly received and gave students a valuable opportunity to build confidence and further develop their legal writing skills in a supportive environment. Experienced mentors shared practical tips, helpful guidance, and study note examples, making the workshop both engaging and useful for everyone who attended. With free snacks and drinks provided as well, the event created a welcoming atmosphere and encouraged academic conversation and collaboration!

RLSS Negotiation Competition

The RMIT LSS Competitions Team hosted a Negotiations Competition. Students worked in pairs to analyse a problem and negotiate the best outcome for themselves and their client. Participants also had the opportunity to develop the skills needed to become strong negotiators through our workshops and to explore their practical value in the legal industry. The competition provided valuable real-life skills that will be directly applicable in both everyday situations and future legal careers.

Women’s Day Morning Tea

12 March 2026

We celebrated International Women’s Day with our special 2026 Women’s Day Tea on the 12th of March. The event brought students and faculty together in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere to recognise the incredible achievements, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women. The afternoon featured light catering and refreshments, with plenty of opportunity for relaxed conversation. It was a welcoming and inclusive event that allowed attendees to connect on both personal and professional levels and begin the semester by getting to know one another!

Welcome To Law School Drinks

We kicked off the year with our Welcome to Law School Drinks. Whether students were new to law school or returning for another year, the event was a fantastic opportunity to mingle, make connections, and enjoy a fun night with fellow law students!

Campus Fest & RMIT Orientation

In early March, the RMIT LSS joined Campus Fest, where students had the chance to meet over 120 clubs and societies that were ready to chat and help them find the right club for them. It was a great opportunity to make friends, take part in activities, and embrace campus life.
